Bill's Early Bronco build

Postby Bill » Tue May 06, 2014 1:23 pm

Sold my red 71 bronco to build a new , more offroad capable Bronco, and a BBQ. The wifey was a little angry at the prospect of me having another Bronco and her NOT having a BBQ. So I built a new one. Now maybe she will shut the hell up

Got a frame up north from a guy,, Darrel Jones from Performance Engineering sand blasted it for me ,,, I will do all the work needed for the links then he will sand blast it again and then paint it. For this I gave him a trailer and a pick up load of old and new wood. Plus I have to take him and his wife to Outback ... He drove a hard bargain. I will cut off all the spring perches and shock mounts, to ready it for the 4 link . ,,,That is a 38" MTR I realized once they were home MTR's are very close to what the size says on the tire. They are freakin huge

I wanted an ARB for the back of the new bronco so it would drive more like a car , but ARB's are expensive , I happen to see a guy selling 2 narrowed dana 60 axles with ARB's front and rear on pirate 4x4 . They were narrowed for early bronco width but I fully intended to go full width because my Bronco will be rear steer and I wanted tire clearance, but, I wanted the ARB's all this was 2800. But the guy wanted to do some trading, I first found out one of the ujoints had been welded to the axle ear , that got him down to 2400. Then he said he wanted some 5 on 5.5 beadlocks. I had some I was trying to sell . He also wanted the hydro assist and pump off the blue bomber. I also had a ford 9 inch 3rd member he said he wanted. That got him down to 1000 cash and the rest in parts . I discovered the rear was a keyed axle rear end , the locker will only work on keyed rear 60's . The front I could use. The rest I sold on the way home from northern Ca, Via text messages to Bronco friends. Got 1700 for both axles and a rear ARB, kept the front ARB for me. All were 5:38"s and serviceable , which is what I'm using

Marsha says thank you , I am no longer connected to the BBQ in any way other than I see it when I go out there. It belongs to Marsha now my part is done. I was only the laborer and money guy.

So,,, my neighbor down the street decided to sell his jeep ,, I raved about the 9.5 ti warn winch when he originally bought the jeep . I asked , are you selling that winch with the jeep?, he said ya the kid wants a winch . I told him I had a Ramsy 8000 pounder in my shed witch came off of the blue bomber and that I would give him 600 and the Ramsy for the warn w/synthetic rope and that I would change it all out in one afternoon. It was a win/win for him he got an extra 600 for the jeep and there was still a winch on it for the new buyer. It was a done deal.
