Sherman Jeep Road

Postby Big Jon » Sat Mar 10, 2012 12:12 pm

The Bakersfield Trailblazers along with the Gear Grinders 4WD club adopted the Sherman Pass 4-Wheel Drive Trail (33E48) 6.8 miles. Under an Adopt –A-Trail agreement with the Forest Service since 1988. Under this agreement we open the trail each year. By removing fallen trees, Rocks, and limbs blocking the trail, also repairing or installing water bars where possible. Since the fire a few years ago trees have started falling across the trail, blocking the trail and removal has become quit a bit of work. Last year we removed about 105 trees or limbs from the trail, some around 36 inches or more in diameter. We also take care of the North Meadow Trail (32E29)
Getting There:
Sherman Pass 4WD Jeep Trail (33E48) 6.8 miles. From Kernville, take Mountain 99 North to Sherman Pass Road (22S05) the jeep trail can be accessed at two places along the Sherman Pass Road. The first is approximately 8 miles East of Mountain Road 99. For the second access point, continue east on Sherman Pass road to Bonita Meadow Road (22S41). Turn Left on 22S41 and drive approximately 4.5 miles then go left on 21S28 for one mile Sherman 4WD trail is on the right. This is narrow; steep rocky jeep trail requires expert 4WD techniques. It is not suitable for long wheel base vehicles.

Sherman Pass trail can also be accessed by North Meadow trail (32E29) approximately 10.5 miles from Mountain Road 99 turn NW off Sherman pass road 22S05 and go about 3.5 miles to intersect with Sherman Pass Jeep road 33E48 at North Meadow.
